Spend 10 minutes with nature and de-stress yourself!

Board exams are going on and no doubt this is a stressful time, but a recent study has shown that spending a little time in nature will automatically de-stress you within the meantime. It is believed that spending 10 minutes in a natural setting or in some parks can help the students to feel happier and this will lessen the effects of both the physical and mental stress, as said by the researchers. The team from a University in the USA have found that 10 minutes to 50 minutes in the natural spaces will boost your mood, focus, and physiological markers like blood pressure and the heart rate of the students.

The aim of the study of the journal that has been published by Frontiers in Psychology is to provide an easily-achievable dosage that physicians can prescribe as a measure of prevention against the high level of stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues college students face.

"It doesn't take much time for the positive benefits to kick in - we're talking 10 minutes outside in a space with nature," -  Gen Meredith (lead author from Cornell University)

The study has been done on the students who are studying in class 10th and 12th, to discover how much time a student should spend outside and what they are to be doing when they are outside. They have found that 10 minutes in the natural environment is enough to improve mood, focus, and many other physiological markers. The study also shows that if you want to enjoy the positive effects of being outside, you just need to take a walk around the park or you can sit idle there and enjoy the breeze of nature.

"It's not that there's a decline after 50 minutes, but rather that the physiological and self-reported psychological benefits tend to plateau after that." - study co-author Donald Rakow.

The momentum of this work is to move towards the prescribing time in nature as a way to prevent or improve the stress and anxiety along with the physical and mental health during the exam.
