Setting up of 75 government medical colleges by 2021-22 has
been approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs. These proposed
colleges will result in 15,700 additional MBBS seats in the country. It is the biggest ever expansion of medical
facilities in the world with an investment of ₹24,375-crore.
as stated by Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash
Javadekar.
According to the government statement, These new medical
colleges would be set up in under-served areas having no medical colleges or district
hospitals having at least 200 beds. For new medical colleges, the preference
will be given to aspirational districts and district hospital having 300 beds
