English has always been a language that is considered as the “language of the elite people.” And this perception of people led to a misconception that English can only be learned through teachers or classrooms, or textbooks. The fear of lagging for not being fluent in a subject that is used largely worldwide affects many people’s self-confidence. English is used by almost 20% of the world population that is nearly 1.5 billion people of the whole world.
But the age of social media has been a blessing in disguise for many people. Social media is used by almost 51% of people which is nearly 3.95 billion people in the whole world. We always wonder whether social media is a boon or a bane for daily life. In some cases of cyberbullying, trolling, harassing, spreading fake news, etc. social media has shown its negative sides that are definitely a bane for people. But we can not deny the fact that with the help of social media – video and audio lectures by professionals, the multiplicity of communication, different use of graphic images – helped people largely to learn the English language fluently without putting immense effort.
Social media has a lot of traits that are making English easy-breezy for people. The items of social media literature – poetic compositions, flash fiction, memes, twitterature – use a very fluid and colloquial language that can be understood by everyone who is not very trained. These different forms have engaged people in reading the English language, and people do not need to feel humiliated about not knowing the English language.
English language or any other language can be learned very easily nowadays because social media has the power of bringing many things at hand very easily. And we definitely should utilize social media’s positive and helpful sides in our favor.
