Union Minister’s Urge On Establishing A “Task Force” For NEP 2020 Implementation

The National Education Policy-2020 which shall soon replace the National Policy on Education- 1986 is a comprehensive body that caters to the propagation and the  upgradation of education from preschool to secondary level.  The Union Cabinet had approved the new framework of implementing NEP in July 2020 as the policy would enable an individual to develop or study specialised areas of their interest at a deeper level that would enhance and develop their character, creativity, spirit of service, scientific and cultural temper and most importantly all the 21st –century abilities across a vast number of disciplines whether science, arts, commerce etc.

After reviewing the implementation of the New Education Policy, 2020, Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal has put forward in the constitution the setting up of a task force for coordinating the framework of implementing the policy between higher education and school education departments. He stresses the urgency in shifting the focus from packaged culture to patent culture. The Minister recommends for a review and an implementation committee headed by the Secretary of Higher Education to look into the matter and drive forward the necessary implications for the speedy implementation of NEP. As of now, a maximum of 181 tasks have been notified and brought into notice for implementation in higher education along with a dashboard that might be prepared for keeping a check on the progress of these tasks of NEP with clear mentioned timelines and targets. To update every stakeholder from time to time, a monthly and a weekly calendar shall also be drawn up for the implementation of these tasks. The Union Minister further states for the establishment of The National Education Technology Forum (NETF) and National Research Foundation (NRF) in 2021-22 to ensure the success of the policy. He not only addresses all the stakeholders to maintain a balanced concord between the implementation of the policy and the existing policies of the government but also to work on the desired linkages between the industry and the academia for better results.
