NEET UG is the exam conducted by NEET for the admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and B.VSc in India. To improve the standard of medical education in India, the union government had implemented the NEET UG exam for all these courses in India. Now, the ministry is planning to implement NEET-UG for B. Sc Nursing admissions in India, and the aim is to improve the quality of Nursing education. The Union Health Ministry has officially written to the Indian Nursing Council with regard to the same. The NEET-UG will be implemented for B.Sc Nursing admissions 2020-21 if the council agrees.
As per the rules of the Indian Nursing Council, the B.Sc Nursing admissions in India are being carried out by the states independently. Various states enroll students in the B.Sc Nursing course on the basis of merit, i.e., marks scored in Class 12. Centralized counseling is being conducted for B.Sc Nursing admissions and seats are allocated as per merit where only a few states conduct the state-level entrance test for B.Sc Nursing.
The notification will be released regarding the implementation for NEET-UG for B.Sc Nursing admissions if the Nursing Council approves the same. By this, the standard of Nursing education in India will improve and the country will get skilled and qualified professionals in the field of Nursing.
Also, the students who are not able to get rank to take admission in MBBS/ BDS/ B.V.Sc on the basis of NEET UG rank prefer B.Sc Nursing/ B.Sc Paramedical courses. These two courses are serving as options for many students, and the implementation of NEET-UG will be a bane to such students.
At present, MBBS/ BDS/ AYUSH/ B.V.Sc seats are being filled in two categories - All India Quota (AQI) and State Quota. If NEET-UG is implemented for B.Sc Nursing admissions, the seats available in all nursing colleges across the country are expected to be filled under AIQ and state quota.
