NID Admissions Details

 

NID: Design Aptitude Test is an entrance exam conducted for the courses of UG and PG design offered by National Institute of Designs (NID) campuses. Design is a very creative field that requires skills like thinking capability and turning designs on paper into reality by techniques.  Aspirants can apply for B.des and M.des courses. These institutes also offer diploma courses and programs. From 2020 some campuses like Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh also offer courses on GDPD based on the performances on the NID entrance test.


Exam name: National Institute of Design Aptitude Test (NID DAT)

•Eligibility:  for B.des- 12th and M.des – graduation from any recognized university/ school.

•Mode of the Exam: offline

•Pattern: 

Prelims 

100 marks objectives and subjective (30% weightage) 

26 number of questions

3 hours duration for B.des and 2.5 hours for M.des.


Mains:

100 marks mains (70%weightage)

 3 hours duration

•Application Fee: Rs. 3000 for unreserved category and Rs.1500 for reserved category.

•Language: English

•Syllabus: color terminology, design development, theme and mood inter-relation, design theory, principles of design, principles of compositions, lettering, optical illusions, understanding the lights and the shades, color pattern and texture, creative thinking and writing, visual logic, use of scales and proportions. Fundamental drawings, memory drawing, lateral thinking, story pictures,3D visualizations, graphics, expression.

For model studio test: model making, doodling, evolving ideas, audio-visual exercises, material manipulation, creative thinking.


The exam centres are available in more than 23 cities all over India.

Eligibility

B.des: applicants must have cleared their 12th class from recognized boards with any disciplines like science, commerce, or humanities.

M.des: candidates should have completed their graduation and not exceed 30 years of age.


Application Process


1. Go to the official websites after confirming the edibility of applying. Register yourself and start filling the form giving all the details asked and submitting documents related to it. Then pay the fee and download a copy for future use.

2. Admit card will be available on the websites before the exam Applicants should check and download admit cards and in case you did not receive then should contact the admission cell immediately.

3. Prelim consists of the written objective and subjective questions and the time duration allotted for the exams is 3 hours.

4. After appearing for the prelims exam, candidates should check their results on the official site with the help of roll number and date of birth. Check whether you have cleared the prelims test or not, if cleared prepare for the mains exams.

5. Whoever qualifies for the prelims exam should download the admit card for the mains exams. These 2nd stage exams require skills like drawing.

6. Candidates who qualify for mains exams’ may have to appear for the practical assignment round conducted by the national institute design authorities in a given limited time.

7. Final list with cut-offs will be declared on the official site. Students should check their scores and on a merit basis, the further admission process will continue.

Tips to qualify the NID exam

•Know the syllabus and pattern by analysing previous year question papers.

•Candidates should work on their creativity on a daily basis, try to create ideas and imagine.

•Try to manage your time, set the schedules properly and follow it.

•Practice your sketching in A4 size papers.

•In drawing try to avoid redrawing and using an eraser, plan well before drawing.

•Follow the right study material and books for the exam.

•Try to give a number of mock tests.

•Try to solve previous year questions.
